WiX Toolset

The WiX Toolset is a set of open-source tools created by Microsoft Corporation for building Windows installation packages, also known as MSI files.

Using the WiX Toolset, developers can create installation packages that are compatible with all versions of Windows. The toolset includes a command-line utility called candle.exe, which compiles XML files that describe the files, directories, registry keys, shortcuts, and other components that should be included in the installation package. Another command-line tool, called light.exe, links the compiled object files into an MSI package.

The WiX Toolset is highly customizable, allowing developers to tailor the installation process to their specific needs. For example, they can create customized UI screens, add or remove features based on user inputs or conditions, and execute custom actions during installation or uninstallation.
